I have never cried over one of my kids report cards before today. They are always good, mostly straight A's or 3's since that's what they use in elementary school. I'm thrilled with that...but not emotional, in part because I want them to understand I'd be just as happy with a C or D if they tried their hardest and that's what they got.
If you've been around here this year, you know it's been a doozy educationally speaking. We've spent a lot of time and resources getting him squared away and "figured out" so that next year we are ready to go and have our ducks in a row, and appropriate measures in place...whether next year would be another year of 1st grade, or 2cd grade.....we were not sure.
Well I'm more than thrilled to report that I have his report card in hand, and it is excellent, nearly all 3's, a huge jump in his RAP score (reading), and mostly all E's (excellent). His teachers comments were also markedly less sarcastic and snarky than what we had on the first 2 report cards, so that's a small victory also.
I'm so proud of him! Yes, we got him the proper interventions he needed to help him, got him to the proper specialists, therapies, etc...but he also realized he is a kid who is going to have to try harder than a lot of the other kids....and he has. He understands the things that he has a hard time with, and has worked hard in those areas.
So what does this mean besides that he gets to move on to 2cd grade?? He does indeed get to have his "I survived 1st Grade" party, with the bounce house and snow cone machine and whatever else he wants!!! (within reason)
Congrats, Myles!!!

Last Day o School!!
What a year it has been.
By far, this is the happiest last day of a school year I've had since the kids started school 7 years ago.
This school year had a lot of twists and turns that we did not see coming when the year started in September, and it's with great joy that we bring this one to a close.
With that, I'm finishing up reading my last book of the school year, drinking my last quite cup of coffee I'll have till September, and then....
I'm heading to Myles class to party hard with some first graders who have had a rough year and deserve the best party ever.
Hoping for no puke at this one!

Survivor Style 4th Grade Party Epicness
It was awesome!!! After a lunch of multiple hot dogs and watermelon, the kids started the tribe challenges. First up....a "food" challenge. Every member had to empty a shot glass of grossness. Baby food of many varieties mixed with prunes and spinach. The first kid on my team got it down....for about 2 seconds and then spewed everywhere. And that set off my most memorable school party to date....one kid after another started throwing up, including Sophie. It was awesome!!
And they will never forget it. I was just laughing thinking it was great...epic...so cool that they actually barfed!! Apparently I am odd (??) as the other moms were mortified and stopped the challenge. When they asked me why I thought it was so cool I said because life is about making memories, and I guarantee you they will think this was a highlight of fourth grade and they'll never forget it! Shortly after that, while digging through the flowerbed in front of the school looking for the buried immunity idol, a teacher came running out of her room yelling at us for #1 being in the planter, which your not supposed to do, and #2 digging it up. Memories I tell ya!! Good times!

Last Friday of the School Year!!!
Wooo Hooo!!!!!
I can not put into words how happy I will be when this year is OVER!!!
We're so close, next Thursday is it, and both Wednesday and Thursday are half days...so they dont' really count.
Going back to the Color Run, you all know Myles we super sick. Well, before that, Emma had the same thing. I had felt off for about a week, and it finally hit me this week, Tuesday morning, in the middle of the gymnasium at the kids school while I was cooking pancakes for 120 4th graders.
Boy, that is the worst feeling in the world. I had been cooking for about an hour, started to get dizzy, was hot, but had the chills, tummy started cramping....but since I had been cooking for all these kids, I really didnt' want anyone to think I was sick and just contaminated all of 4th grade. I excused myself to the bathroom, came back and finished up. Then I had to track down Sophie and let her know I couldn't stay the rest of the day as planned (it was Gold Rush day, kinda a big deal).
Such a bad time to be sick with all the end of the year art projects, parties, special days. I think the worst is over, which is great because today I have Greek Day at the middle school. Again, serving food to the 6th graders. But at least I'm not cooking, it's catered by a Greek restaurant. Tonight we have a fundraiser with our Woodside Family (kids old school that we miss dearly) for Mrs. Cattarusa. She's had a relapse of cancer, at a much too young age. Emma and her daughter are the same age and went through Woodside together. She's been off work for nearly 2 years now (she was back at the beginning of this year, before her relapse), and there are just a lot of expenses that aren't covered by insurance. So tonight we'll be zumba'ing, dancing, karaoke'ing, and having fun to do our part to help out. For more info, you can go here.
Anyways, tons going on around here, but it feels great to be in the final push towards the end of the year. We are also so looking forward to kicking off summer break at Brazen's TrailQuake run!! This is a new one for us, we've never done it before, so that's always extra exciting!!

Pictures up on Dropshots
I uploaded a lot of new pictures to our photo site yesterday. Dropshots just launched their new version, and it takes a minute to figure out how to use and to get used to it. If you end up stuck or lost, just click on the Beefydrut in the upper left side next to the picture of Brian and I...that'll take you back to the main page.
Also, if you click on a thumbnail from that main page, it will show you the pictures in a bigger format, but they are in order from right to left, so you want to left arrow (normally you'd right arrow for the next pic). It's best to pick the day you want to look at and click the "view all" option. BUT, just know that the pictures are in order from the bottom rows to the top rows once you've clicked "view all" for a certain day's photos, and again, if you click on a picture, you left arrow for the next picture, not right arrow. To get back to the main page, again, just click the "beefydrut" next to the picture of Brian and I.
It'll take some getting used to, but I think after a while we'll all like it better!
Let me know if any of you have problems with the new format. (not that I can change it, but I can let them know)

3 Posts in 1!
My last run in Castle Rock just happened to be on a round up day. It's pretty cool to watch and hear. The hills are full of cowboys on horses, the valley has cowboys on 4 wheelers scarring the cows out of the flats up into the hills, and then the cowboys on horses drive them to where they want them. There's lots of yelling "Yaw" and cows running. It is super cool, and distracting. It' s not everyday I can get a shot like these. The cowboy in these shots was throwing a stick for his dogs.
And then I ate trail.....the hardest fall I've had. Like lay on the ground kicking the other foot because my knee was throbbing so bad.
It's still swollen, and bruised in a circle around the knee cap, but it' ll be fine....when it starts bending all the way again : )
Post 2- a pic I always take when we field trip to Smith Family Farm in Brentwood.
He was fine all day, but started puking late Friday night, all night. Unfortunately, we had a race the next day that I had been really looking forward to for some time. We had a tutu making parting with all our friends Friday night (before Myles was puking), and we were all excited for this fun adventure.
Post 3-
Myles stopped puking about 3 a.m., we figured we'd take him and see if he could walk it since he had been looking forward to it, too. He made it all the way until our wave took off, and then puked and he and I had to sit out the run. : ( So sad. But everyone else had a great time, its definitely one I want to do someday!!
In other news, the last 2 weeks of school have begun!! Lots of parties and special events, busy times, but we have finally got some races on the calendar, which are listed on the left.
